Engadget Labs: HTC Flyer

Engadget Labs: HTC Flyer

When HTC first announced Flyer back in February, my first reaction was not exactly a surprise. With smartphones as successful as the family or EVO Desire in the market, it was obvious that sooner or later HTC would take a bite of the market for tablets, your style, though. But introduce a compact tablet in a market so dominated by screens 9 and 10 inches is a gamble in which HTC has decided to put all their Dell inspiron 1440 batteries, and it has not gone wrong at all. With a style and approach similar to the Samsung Galaxy Tab, The Great Little Tablet HTC is mainly oriented to professional, you need connectivity and productivity wherever you are, but equally suitable for any user to be an Android very versatile system.

HTC Flyer went on sale in Spain last May 27 in the 32GB version with 3G connectivity - in fact, HSPA / WCDMA - priced at 650 Euros, which makes it very inaccessible. This road is a device with a thousand uses, although those of you who seek the pinnacle of personal entertainment devices and management, perhaps you finish disappointed. In terms of Toshiba pa3399u 1brs, HTC Flyer may well be worth the money, but the mark of 650 Euros still seems excessive for a 7-inch tablet. Also shortly be launching a Wi-Fi-only model with a more affordable price of 499 Euros. Throughout this review I will discuss the remarkable detail in both positive and negative, to provide the best information possible - my vision - this tablet.

Specifications

HTC has tried to create a device that is worth paying, and has done so with the highest quality components, but may have sacrificed a bit of raw power at the expense of greater energy efficiency, and although it is not noticeable in everyday use, leaves a bittersweet taste.

First contact: Impressions
HTC Flyer drips elegance at its joints, ports and pixels, and it is evident just by removing it from its packaging. A device that, although it is striking to the eye, is equally fine thanks to the quality materials that HTC has used in its construction. The back cover design is very reminiscent of other famous brand, such as the HP pavilion dv5000 battery or HTC Legend, highlighting the similarity with the latter precisely because of the use of aluminum for most of the housing.

When the first hold in the hand seems terribly heavy. The effect is magnified by the compact design, but after a few minutes you get used to the weight and feels like an extension of your arm. To the touch, the HTC Flyer seems robust, well built, and can stand with one hand easily. The design, fun for its diversity and color scheme and sober in his termination, does justice to the device. The black frame around the 7-inch screen is fine enough to go unnoticed, while it has the presence to direct and focus the eye on the impressive IPS panel that supports a high viewing angle without suffering any kind of discoloration or "negative" effects. But like all screens of this type, the HTC Flyer suffers from too easily to be marked with signs, so if you're going to buy one, aprovisionaos wipes clean LCD, because you require.

Our version was accompanied by a fine synthetic cover topped the style of incorporating HTC Magic with magnetic closure (At first I was concerned that it could alter the behavior of the battery) and a place to keep the stylus in a safe.

Performance at the height of any dual-core

Not worth the jokes here: HTC Flyer is a high-end device and it shows its 1.5 GHz processor and the Gigabyte of RAM do you much good operating system. While we can classify the strange decision to incorporate a single-core processor rather than dual-core so helpful that most manufacturers assembled in their tablets, include the processor is fully capable of any task you need to play with our new tablet. During testing, I have not found a single application or game that causes a decrease in the performance of the CPU. Everything works except for a slight lag in the interface at certain times, motivated more by the operating system and interface HTC Sense, that poor performance of the Compaq HP nc6120 battery.

The strength of HTC Flyer: Storage

With 32 GB of internal storage concerns to save our things fade away completely. Although the final usable size is reduced to about 20GB to divert a part the operating system, and another to the installation of applications, we still have plenty of room to store everything we need. To put it in numbers, we could save up to 6 HD movies, 14 in standard resolution, 7500 MP3 songs, or all office documents we require throughout our working lives. What's more, if with great effort - because it is pretty hard - we open the rear compartment, gain access to both our SIM card slot, and the expansion slot that supports up to 32GB microSD cards, which puts us in no small amount of up to 64 Gigabytes of raw storage for our enjoyment.

Chambers. As always, the usual

Tabet's cameras are too far from the lot to take them into account as a key point when purchasing. The 5-megapixel main camera is at the top works correctly under optimal light as the light of day - one day - although it is dreadful in the definition of the image, compared to other similar Dell vostro 1400 batteries, is quite poor. When the lighting conditions worsen, or want to take pictures inside, and quickly found image noise, having to raise the ISO to take pictures visible as very low levels in the photos come out extremely dark for lack of flash. Flyer is capable of recording HD video to 1280x720 pixels at 30 fps, and is able to offer a quality quite acceptable given the deficiencies in the optical sensor. In the case of the front camera of 1.3 Megapixels we find more of the same, but as a secondary chamber is responsible for its function as a camera for video conferencing, on the other hand, we can not do since they do not have Google Talk Android still upgrade to 2.3.4.

Capacitive stylus on a screen

The Magic Pen HTC has developed for use with your tablet deserves a special mention in this article. Despite having capacitive screen, the HTC Flyer can work with this stylus specially designed for her, resulting in multiple actions for the use of the Magic Pen is perfect. Although you can use to replace the fingers, and it does not interact with the interface the same way, you can perform different actions, like taking screenshots with just a stylus and touch our editing, freehand drawing or taking notes , highlight text in books, websites, or even edit photos, all thanks to you also have something in common with graphics tablets: It is sensitive to pressure. Although the stylus software can not change the stroke as the pressure (at least not visibly), they do have control over the opacity of this, giving some leeway in making sketches or edit images on our tablet .

Unfortunately, everything has a limit, and the Magic Pen is rather vague, which prevents proper use to write fluently and has a quite noticeable lag, which is also an obstacle to writing. Although the idea is very interesting in principle, in practice I found a poorer experience than I expected. Despite this, the purchase of a Magic Pen is highly recommended, as it unlocks features that otherwise are inaccessible, and is a very handy tool for making quick notes and increase productivity if we use this Dell inspiron 15 battery to work.

Connectivity. We flew over any network

The 3G modem behaves as it should. Not much to note here, except the possibility of using the Wi-Fi chip to convert our tablet in an Access Point or Hotspot able to share with any team for their wireless broadband. In addition, through the micro USB port - a bit peculiar, but 100% compatible with the standard - we can share the connection, putting the HTC Flyer in "USB Modem". The tablet is equipped with 802.11n wireless chip which gives a large field of operation when connected to compatible networks, and also has Bluetooth 3.0, which when paired with another device BT3.0 get us a fantastic transfer rates, ideal if we are not in sync via USB or Wi-Fi.

Why would we want if we have a battery power source?

Since the specifications say it, HTC has included a battery of 4000mAh Flyer, which is able to achieve a decent range, as long as we take great care to adjust the power options, keeping the brightness to minimum when possible, ignoring the using bluetooth, and when not strictly necessary, limiting ourselves to GSM / GPRS. The reality is that playing video, a series of Apple macbook pro 15 inch battery can last us between 4 and 6 hours, which is a bit annoying if you're a compulsive user, who spends the day with the tablet in her hand. However, in a day of normal use, we could reach from 10 am to 10 pm before the terminal requiring a new load.
